MamaLa's is black woman-owned soul food, made fresh to order at 307 Main Street in Poughkeepsie. Nothing sits under a heat lamp here — every plate is made when you order it, the way it's supposed to be.

The signatures speak for themselves: Honey Gold Wings, Golden Whiting, Pasta Rasta, Fish Sammich, and a yellow cake with chocolate frosting that people plan their week around. Friday and Saturday the kitchen runs until 3 AM, because good food shouldn't keep business hours.

And one rule the logo says out loud: no pork on our fork. Never has been, never will be.
